Reboot Education

Schools are a key part of any community, yet a growing number of children facing behavioural changes, rising exclusions or repeated absence are struggling to get what they need out of education. This is where innovative alternative providers like Reboot Education are offering a lifeline.

Offering alternative education for young people

Reboot Education is an alternative education provider based in Ipswich, supporting children aged 7 to 16 who struggle to access or remain engaged in mainstream education.

Founded in 2024 by experienced local school leaders Paul Arch and Viv Hunt, Reboot Education exists to help young people rebuild confidence and re-engage with learning. Through small-group provision and tailored programmes focused on technology and IT, Reboot offers a flexible, supportive environment designed around each learner’s individual needs.

Students typically attend on a flexible basis for up to 15 hours a week across one to three days. Many have previously struggled to thrive in traditional educational settings or have been left without a school placement due to unmet needs. Reboot’s model provides a calmer, more personalised learning experience where students can progress at their own pace.

Supporting innovation that changes lives

With backing from the Freeport East Innovation & Skills Fund, Reboot Education exemplifies the fund’s ambition to improve access to innovation-led skills opportunities in under-recognised communities. Its strong focus on technology aligns directly with Freeport East’s priority growth sectors and long-term workforce needs.

Through its programmes, students develop practical digital skills including coding, website design and video editing – all of which support future education pathways and employment opportunities. Learning is centred around engaging, real-world projects such as coding challenges, 3D printing, creative software and programmable devices, helping young people build confidence while gaining relevant, transferable skills.

Paul Arch, Co-CEO and Director of Education at Reboot Education, said: “With the support of the Freeport East Innovation & Skills Fund, we’re able to extend our reach and introduce even more young people to meaningful, future-focused learning experiences. Our technology-centred approach isn’t just about education; it’s about equipping students with skills that open doors to real opportunities in careers and further learning.”

Beyond the classroom, Reboot works to broaden students’ horizons through real-world experiences and local partnerships. Learners have taken part in visits to further education providers such as Suffolk New College, helping them explore post-16 options and understand the pathways available to them beyond compulsory education.

Reboot’s holistic approach also integrates social activities and therapeutic support, recognising that wellbeing and confidence are critical foundations for learning. This model helps young people develop resilience, improve self-esteem and feel better prepared for the next stage of their lives.

The future of alternative education in East Anglia

Reflecting its growing impact and demand, Reboot Education has expanded its provision beyond Ipswich, opening an additional base in Bury St Edmunds – an expansion made possible in part through backing from the Freeport East Innovation & Skills Fund. In 2025, the organisation was also recognised as Small Business of the Year at the East Anglian Daily Times Business Awards, highlighting both its social impact and its contribution to the regional education landscape.

With continued support from the Freeport East Innovation & Skills Fund, Reboot Education has been able to strengthen and scale its offer, supporting more young people, developing future-focused skills and helping ensure that no child is left behind simply because mainstream education was not the right fit.
